Here is the mama sitting on the nest/basket. She is the one one the left. One of the babies is sitting next to her and the other two sitting on the branch are the babies too. It is fun to see their colors change. The one cream color one is changing alot now. It's little cheeks are turning orange. I think it will be a male but it is alittle soon to tell for sure.
Here is Carlee checking out the new quilt I found at the thrift store on wed. I think she approves of the purchase. I started to scold myself for buying another quilt cuz I didn't even know what I was going to do with it. However, I have an idea to use it as a cover for the hammock out in the yard this spring. That is one of my goals this spring.....to actually have a place to take a nap in the nice spring breeze. Don't you think I will dream some nice dreams on top of this one? I do.
I thought I would show off my little surprise from this morning. I got to see one of my new batch while it was hatching. I couldn't believe it....I looked in and thought one of the eggs looked cracked.....then it registered....It is cracked.....I ran and got the camera and got to see this little guy arrive. There was already one that had hatched. That is the head in the middle. You can just barely see the new baby's little head under the shell.

I was really cute to see it move around with the shell stuck to the top of it's head. I don't think he thought it was very funny though.

Unfortunatly one didn't make it in the other cage. It was on the bottom of the cage tonight along with one of the eggs. So in the other cage I have two hatched one to go. In the cage shown above I think I have four babies and five eggs left. Jeepers. I am going to have a pet store before long. I hope you are having a good evening. I think I am off to bed. One more visit to the chiropractor and my arm still going numb and now I have a nagging pain in my shoulder blade area. I just know I didn't have this pain before I went to the doctor. Now it is worse than any numbness ever was. I hope I won't feel so discouraged in the morning. Thanks for stopping by. Don't forget to say hello. Lisa

Here are a few more pics from Lake Farmpark Quilt show this year. I thought this one was very nice. I can't believe she didn't win anything for this one. Once again, not sure of the name. I know I am a bad blogger. I think it might be in a later picture.

She did so many different quilting designs. Just beautiful.

Anchors away.

I wonder if there are any pirates on that ghost ship?

Just lovely. Now I should get out the little quilt top I got at the thrift store wed and put it in my handi quilter and see what I can come up with.
By the way, I have received alot of questions about the baby birdies. Out of the ten or eleven eggs she laid I had four babies. They are doing great. I am having a hard time getting a good picture of any of them. They don't sit still..... But both pairs have layed more eggs. 5 in one nest/cage. 9 in the other. As of Sat. night after work I had 1 baby in one cage and 3 in the other. Oh my.....But I am having fun watching them. Have a good day. Lisa

I can't believe it has been so long....

It has been so long since I have posted anything. I have been checking up on all the fun blog that I love so much but when it came to mine.....I just didn't have anything to say. Then it got worse. Nothing that I had to say was good enough after such a long silence. I decided to stop being such a dork and just type something. So here it goes.

I haven't been up to much over here. I've been having trouble with my arm going numb for a couple months now and finally decided to go to a new chiropractor. The took a bunch of xrays and I have been going 3 days a week for about an hour and a half each time. I think that is the main reason for my absence in blog land. I don't have that much free time after the doc's. This is my third week. Not a whole lot of improvement yet. But I am hopeful that soon things will improve. I thought I would throw in a picture of a quilt for fun. We went to the Lake Farmpark Quilt show awhile back(2 or 3 weeks) They had a featured artist that was just incredible. This is hand quilted and hand appliqued. I will try to go thru my stuff and find the program and give her credit I can't remember her name right now. ( might be able to zoom in on the picture). I know that was pretty obvious. I am not sure if I should be driving today . hehe. Hope you have all been well. Lisa

Too many things to do...not enough time

This is one of my newest projects that I have started. I often have more than one going at a time but right now I have a ton of things to finish. But I am going to try to stay positive. hehe. Isn't this a wonderful pattern. I just love it. I worked on it a couple of nights so far. I have some of the house blocks ready to blanket stitch the windows and doors on.
I thought I would give you an idea of the colors that I went with. I think I am going to iron on the pieces that are ready and put the floss and stuff in a basket and take it upstairs so that when I sit on the couch I can have something ready.

This is a pattern I got a couple weeks ago and didn't want to wait to start it. Go figure! I think I am going to use a more pink than red wool for the geraniums.

This is a blurry shot of some of my new thrift store wool finds.

Here are a few others. I just love the blue plaid. What a deal...a long skirt for 50 cents. Yippee

Here is a shot of the babies. I can't wait to take out that basket and wash it. The bird poop is all over it. I was able to wipe off a bunch(after this picture of course) but it needs some work. It is funny to watch them all try to get in there together. The darkest one is the youngest. He just got out of the nest for the first time on Friday.

I tried to get a shot of the babies. The one in the middle is the last one out of the nest. He is sooo little.

This one has such pretty coloring.

Here they are on the bottom of the cage. They are all eating on their own now. The parents still feed them once in awhile but it is fun to see them imitate their parents.

If they would only sit still once in awhile so I could get a good picture for once would be really nice. I won't hold my breath for that one.
I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend. I hope you will get a bunch of things done on your list today. Have fun!

The things you miss while you are at work.

Tonight Larry showed up at my place of work. He said that he had taken the dogs out for a run. He said that it wasn't that great of an idea. He reminded me that it was very muddy out. Soooo while I was finishing my shift he was giving all three of our lovely dogs a bath. I am so sorry that I missed out on that fun. hehe.

Wasn't it great to breath in the spring like air? It was fun to think about new projects for spring. What is your plans? Anything exciting?

I can't believe I have so many projects started. I don't make myself finish one before I start another....but this is crazy. I have a big rug to bind, I started a wall hanging and a throw size quilt. I have an applique and a tabletopper all going at one time. I think I need professional help. Just kidding. I guess I just need to get serious.

I hope you are having a great night. I am glad you stopped by.

I tried to get some new pics of the baby birdies but the momma and daddy are getting really protective. They kept sitting on top of them in the nest. Wow. I have been holding the babies for the last two days but tonight they were having none of that. So maybe tomorrow I can get a cute picture. Thanks for stopping by. Night!

A week in the life....

This week has gone by so fast. I believe this is a picture of the daddy bird feeding one of his little ones. What a difference a few days make when you are talking about baby birds....
This is a picture from yesterday morning. This is one of the babies. She was out of the nest and on the bottom of the cage when we got up saturday. She looks so pretty.

This is a shot of the nest today. The first one out already made her way back to the nest by herself. She is the one on the edge of the basket.

The other two are really close to leaving the nest also. The last one to hatch still has a way to go. You might have to enlarge the picture to see him/her. The feathers are just starting to develop on it. I am anxious to see the one in the middle. It has nice colors. I hope you are having a nice day today.
So far all is going well with Maddee. As far as we know she hasn't had another seizure. I am so happy about that. Talk to ya soon. Thanks for stopping by.

Update of the babies.

Sorry for the blurry picture. Here is my Maddee. She played pretty hard tonight before I got home and now she is tired. I got the call today from the vet while I was at work. I didn't get to talk to her too much but she said the all the blood test came back good. She doesn't appear to be diabetic and all the other organs seem to be working fine. So she isn't really sure what is going on with her. I am going to talk to her tomorrow and see what she has decided to try first.
Here is Marlee. We started to cut his hair last wed. and the clippers broke. We picked up another pair but still haven't finished his hair since the clippers really stress Maddee out. We wanted to let her rest comfortably.

Here is a shot of Carlee watching the bird tonight. She gets so focused on these birds. She doesn't seem to be interested in the parents or the parakeets. She just wants the "mean" birdie.

This is an earlier shot of the babies. I think it was from last wed.

Their little necks are gross. You can see the seed that mom and dad have been feeding them.

This is from Sunday. The nest is filling up

Their feathers are really starting to develop now. All of their eyes are open except for the youngest one. Their little tail feathers are growing too. Sunday they were about a 1/4 of an inch. Tonight about a half an inch. How cute. Getting a good picture of these little guys isn't easy let me tell you. Thank you all for your kind comments about Maddee. I appreciate them. I hope you all have a good night. Lisa

Home from the vet

They took blood and are going to call tomorrow with the results. She thinks she might be diabetic. It was good seeing how much Maddee was playing today. She was like her old self. She hasn't had any more episodes that we have seen anyway. Thanks for the nice comments you have left. I appreciate the nice words. I will let you know what she says tomorrow.

I am off to work on the big bag of wool I just got at the thrift store. I love the 50 cent day. I got 10 items tonight. Thanks for stopping by. See ya soon. Lisa

Ps. the baby birds are doing well. They are flapping their wings. Hope to have a good picture tomorrow.

Today has been a scary day

This morning Larry and I were in the kitchen cooking sausage gravy and our dog Maddee fell over and started having a seizure. She looked like she was trying to swim or something. Larry got down on the floor and held on to her to try to calm her. It only lasted a few minutes. I was on the floor keeping Carlee away from her. She kept trying to see what was wrong. I was so scared. I just kept talking to her and praying she would be okay. When it was over she just layed there for a while. She was able to get up and she went into the living room after Larry called her in. She layed there for a bout a half hour then she got up and layed on the couch. She stayed there for a couple hours sleeping. Then she got up and stretched and she has been her normal self since. She was outside playing tug of war with Carlee.

I had called the emergency vet and she said if it happens more than 3 times in 24 hours they recommend hospitalizing them. So we thought we would just watch her closely. I swear I haven't left her side all day. I get so sick to my stomach just thinking about it.

She had an episode over two years ago. It was in the middle of the night and she jump out of our bed and the same thing happened. We thought she had hit her head or something. Now that it has happened again we now differently. I am hoping to get her in to see our normal vet in the morning. I just love her so much. It is scary. I know I said that already. I hope the vet will have some answers. Has anyone had a dog with seizures? I hope you all are having a better day. I could defiantly loose weight this way though. Good night.

I love my man

Every morning I do some chores before I go to work. I have to feed the dogs, birds, put dishes in the dishwasher...you know the drill. Then I get ready for work, make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich that I eat as I am driving to work....Yesterday, I got the jar of peanut butter out of the cupboard and it was empty. I thought to myself, why did Larry put it back in the cupboard. It was EMPTY. I saw the new jar behind it on the shelf but I hate to pull on the safety seal. I ususally can't get it so I decided to have a bologna sandwich instead. Why get irritated. Just have something else.

So this morning, I am still in bed and I hear Larry in the kitchen making his lunch. He wakes me up and asks "Why didn't you eat a peanut butter sandwich yesterday?" I thought to myself....I know he didn't just wake me up to ask me that. Yep. He did. So I told him I didn't want to open the new jar. WHY I asked. He said cuz I opened it up for you and I wrote I love you in the peanut butter...AWWWWWW. I got out of bed and asked him "where is it?" He had already dug into it and the message was gone. But I just love that about him. I thought about it all day. I am so blessed. I hope you have a good weekend. Lisa

I can't believe I won.

I just love when you go to the mail box, and there is something good in there. Don't you? Most of the time it is only bills.....Today was a GREAT day. I received the lovely little mat shown below. I won it on Laurens site at http://rugsandpugs.blogspot.com I am so happy with it. I wish the picture did it justice. I want to thank Lauren again for the great giveaway. I hope everyone is staying warm. I think I am off to start a new rug. Good night.

February 2, 2011

I can't believe it is February already. Yippee!

I just love that January is behind us and Spring is getting closer and closer. I just love that it stays lighter longer now. I am so thankful that we didn't loose power and that the storms weren't as bad as they thought. I am glad I had today off so I didn't have to leave the house.

I went to the thrift store on Monday night and found some pretty material. The first two on the left are flannel. The rest are all cotton. I don't know what I am going to do with them. I think that is part of the fun. hehe. You just can't beat 4 yards for 4.50 I love it.
The only other exciting thing around here is the baby finches. This was a few days or so ago. I had planned on keeping a journal but didn't get that far. oops.
I have to laugh when I see this picture. I can just imagine that it is screaming help.........I am stuck in between all these silly eggs. GET ME OUT !!!! (Sorry about the poor picture quality. It is hard to take pictures while on a ladder, with the camera over your head, with the parents flying around squawking, while trying to dodge the wire cage)

Here is a shot with it's little mouth open.

This was just on Monday. I had checked the cage...all was well. I came back a few minutes later and this little guy was on the floor of the cage. I picked him up with a spoon and put him in this little cup and put him back in the cage. I thought since he was still moving I would give him another chance. I don't know if he just got pushed out or if it was an accident. I figured if it wasn't an accident he would be back on the floor when I got home. All ended well.

This is a shot from today. I thought that I had five babies that hatched but I could only see 4 today. I decided not to think about it too much. I only have one egg left that hasn't hatched. A couple hatched but were dead on the bottom of the cage and some never developed and some broke. I think she had laid 11 eggs total.

What is wrong with this picture? You guessed it this little guy should be in the cage. Larry was doing something in the cage and this little guy just flew right out. I couldn't believe it. Larry was on his way outside to plow snow on Sunday so he said let him fly around and I will catch him when I come back in. I felt like a challenge so I closed the dog door and locked the back door and went to it. I didn't want to take a chance that our "Bird dog" Carlee would sneak back in. She just watched thru the door. lol

I was able to catch him twice but didn't hold on tight enough. You guessed it he got away twice. I got a butterfly net out of the closet and finally was able to get him back in the cage. What a relief. Oh, guess what I found in the other finch cage today. This is the cage that holds the "mean Male" and the other female. Yep, you guessed it an egg in their food dish. I have read all these books and web sites that all said "If you don't give them a nest they won't lay eggs" Well I think it means they won't sit on them and they won't hatch(I guess) cuz I also found another egg on the bottom underneath the paper linning. Gee wiz. I hope it isn't in the water. All these babies in my house. What if it is in the water?

I hope you are having a good week and are staying warm. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you will come back soon. Lisa
